Slick ways of ridding those nasty stains

Wine Stain
To clean wine spills from carpet, sprinkle with salt and gently work the salt into the base of the stain with a cloth. Let the salt absorb all of the wine. Then blot with dampened cloth.

Glue stain
To remove glue from carpeting, first I would recommend a vigorous vacuuming to remove as much of the paste as possible. You should then be able to clean up what is left by making a very sudsy solution with your favorite detergent and warm water. Use only the suds and brush them onto the spot, first vertically, then horizontally. Blot up excess liquid, and place a towel and a couple of heavy books on top of the spot to absorb moisture. Leave overnight, then vacuum as usual.

Grease stain
Some greasy stains can be removed with baking soda, cornstarch, cornmeal, or talcum powder. Leave on 6 to 8 hours, then vacuum. You can also try to remove minor grease stains from your carpet with shaving cream or carbonated water. Let dry, then vacuum.

Lipstick Stain
You can try scrubbing the area with a non-gel (white) toothpaste, as this is very effective at removing lipstick. Another method is to combine 1/4 cup hydrogen peroxide with 1 TBS. of ammonia. Dab it on with a towel until the area is saturated. Then, take a piece of plastic wrap and put it down on the spot and cover with a stack of heavy books. Let sit overnight. Rinse well in the morning.

Soft Drink Stain
To remove a soft drink stain from your carpet, mix 1 teaspoon liquid dishwashing detergent with 1 cup lukewarm water. Follow up with 1 tablespoon of ammonia in 1/2 cup of water.
